Some of the best Door County salmon and trout fishing is found in Lake Michigan waters close to Rowleys Bay. The largest king salmon winner (40 lbs) in the 22-year history of the annual Kewaunee/Door County fishing derby was caught near Rowleys Bay by the late Ed Steffen in 1993. Salmon topping 25 pounds are caught each season. Trophy smallmouth bass fishing is also available in Rowleys Bay.
The Reel Addiction is the only full-time six passenger charter boat operating out of Wagon Trail Marina. And because of limited access, there is much less boat traffic compared to larger ports in Lake Michigan. The net result is a high quality fishing experience that most people find preferable to congested fishing areas.
Reel Addiction charter trips are limited to 6 or fewer passengers. Some charter boats take a dozen or more passengers which reduces the odds of individuals bringing home fish. If you want more fish, go with the Reel Addiction!
Many charter boats use heavy rods equipped with low-quality reels and heavy line designed to land fish in a hurry. Not so with the Reel Addiction. Captain Denny equips the Reel Addiction with high quality Shimano rods, reels and tackle that provide a better fighting experience and more hook-ups.
There is no extra charge for fish cleaning and bagging--it's included in the price. A crew of two is standard which is not always the case with many charter boats in Door County. Ask before you book.
Captain Denny hits the water near sunrise each morning when fishing action is best. He also schedules charters in the evening which is also good. Don't be fooled by some charter captains who claim that it makes no difference when to go fishing. They like to sleep in and are not all that concerned about working hard for clients. Early light and late light are usually best--ask any experienced angler! You snooze you loose.
The Reel Addiction normally has lines in the water 15 minutes after leaving port. That is because prime fishing grounds lie close to Rowleys Bay. That is not the case for many charters operating out of ports like Sturgeon Bay that require longer travel times to fishing areas. Check before you book.
